How it works
Every guide lists the tools it needs. We match each one to a standard tool name, so 'a #2 Phillips screwdriver' and 'screwdrivers' both count as screwdrivers.
You can do a repair when you own every tool it needs. Tools a guide marks as optional, or only needed in some cases, don't count against you.
One tool away lists repairs missing exactly one tool, grouped by that tool, with its typical store price from our toolkit data.
Supplies like caulk, parts and cleaners aren't counted, because you'd buy those for the job anyway.

Gotchas and tips
- Some guides list a tool as optional; those don't count against you.

- Your tool list is shared with the weekend planner and the fix-or-call calculator.

What can I fix? questions
What tools does every homeowner need?
A set of screwdrivers, an adjustable wrench, pliers, a hammer, a tape measure, a utility knife and a flashlight cover a surprising share of repairs. A cordless drill is usually the next best buy.
Does this count supplies like caulk or parts?
No. It only counts tools you'd keep. Each guide lists the parts and supplies for that job, and the weekend planner builds one shopping list for several jobs.
Are my tool choices saved?
Yes, on this device only. The weekend planner uses the same list, so you only need to tick them once.
